HPE - Industry Commentary on HPE's SimpliVity Acquisition

HPE, NTNX
By Nancy Piccin
Articles in the trade press have provided context around products, likely integration and other aspects of Hewlett Packard Enterprise's announcement last week that it would purchase of SimpliVity Corp.

On Jan. 17, Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. announced plans to buy SimpliVity Corp., maker of hyperconverged systems, for $650 million.

OTR Global sources consider Nutanix Inc. the leader in the emerging hyperconverged market and described SimpliVity as a close follower in OTR Global's Oct. 25 note. Hyperconverged infrastructure products combine servers, storage, networking, virtualization and other software in a single enclosure. The impact of the purchase is likely to create ripples throughout the competitive landscape as multiple competitors are vying for share, including Dell Technologies Inc.'s EMC, VMware Inc., Pure Storage Inc., Cisco Systems Inc., and others.

HPE already offers the HC380 and the HC250 in that segment, but is expected to use SimpliVity's IP to beef up its offerings and introduce new ones. Linked below are articles from the trade press laying out details of how HPE and SimpliVity might integrate their product lines and analysis of where those efforts might fit into the larger technology landscape.

OTR Global is currently in the field with a multi-client custom report looking at Nutanix.
