THE ROLE

The institutional equity sales associate will work with the San Francisco based sales team to act as sales coverage to current OTR clients. This will entail daily interactions with clients regarding OTR’s product, chaperoning OTR editors and research personnel into clients, attending client events on regular basis. This role will also involve prospecting for new clients.   Salary plus bonus.

This person will have primary responsibility for certain institutional clients providing those clients with OTR’s research, research calls, events and interaction.  Will also include backing up the sales team with database reporting and communicating with the NYC based team coordinating intra region editor travel.

TELECOM REPORTER INDIA - PART TIME

THE ROLE

The Telecom/ Network Communications Reporter will focus on the network infrastructure market in India and other telecom research topics; primarily the infrastructure that powers wireless and wireline networks, as well as devices, and may occasionally cross over into technology and other broader topics and projects across the TMT area of coverage.  Individual in this role is based in India and is focused on interviewing key individuals within the telecom ecosystem. The Reporter will also interact with the rest of OTR’s Global Network Communications team.  Analytical skills, ability to connect the dots and present research findings in a concise and confident manner are other key aspects of the role. Individual in this position reports to the Director of Network Communications Research. This is a remote, part-time position with 15 interviews per quarter to start and expand up to 20 interviews per quarter. Workload may vary week to week.

PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

  • Ideal candidate will have strong, active, multiple contacts at the major Indian carriers including carrier heads of procurement and senior management/directors responsible for network strategy or planning.
  • Thorough understanding of the Indian telecom service provider, telecom network equipment and telecom device markets, with a strong background in the industry or in journalism. 
  • Ability to develop and maintain new source relationships.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in journalism or telecom industry.

THE ROLE

The Consumer Retail China Researcher will work closely with Consumer Retail Editor, China, to provide relevant and timely marketplace intelligence for the global investment community by interviewing industry sources. This person will be expected to develop new industry sources and maintain relationships to generate timely, in-depth interviews spanning retail, restaurants and consumer products topics in China. Effective source development and interviewing skills are key aspects of the role. The individual in this role will also work closely with other members of the Consumer Retail China team. Effective communication skills are another key aspect of the role. The Consumer Retail Researcher, China reports to Consumer Retail Editor, China.

PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

  • Thorough understanding of the China market with a strong background in one or more of the following areas: ecommerce, apparel and footwear, retail wholesale, consumer products and/or restaurants industry.

FIELD FORCE

THE ROLE
We are seeking outgoing individuals with retail experience, savvy with fashion and retail terms, who are interested in periodic store visits with flexible hours. We are offering an exciting opportunity to visit top malls and retailers such as Lululemon, Coach, Michael Kors, Crocs, Ulta and Restoration Hardware while gathering important information from observations and manager interviews including: promotional and markdown activity, product placement, sales, traffic and spending trends. Your commentary and evaluations, based on the information you gather, will provide us with valuable information and make meaningful contributions to the quality of our research product. Store visits can be performed evenings or weekends, so great, even for those will other jobs. The position is contract work, includes no benefits and is paid by the project. Compensation: $40 to $75 per store visit + mileage up to $20, most perform 1-4 projects per quarter depending on the retailers’ geographic distribution and your location.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Travel to malls and/or specific retailers within your geographic area to assess retail environment and report on the following: promotional and markdown activity, inventory levels, top-sellers, popular fashion and fashion misses, sales, traffic and spending trends. You will enter your information through our secure website by the given deadline.  Attention to detail and diligent follow-up skills essential. Develop an in depth knowledge of each store and its merchandise in order to recognize patterns and changes over time.

PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

  • Reside in the Chicago/Tampa/Jacksonville/Columbus, Charlotte area with less than 30 minute travel time to a major mall or retail center
  • At least 2 years of retail experience with solid, general knowledge of retail business
  • The ability to quickly assimilate information on new subjects with intellectual curiosity and passion for fact-finding
  • Confidence and professionalism in approaching store managers for information, ability to build relationships with store managers. Be outgoing and willing to deal with some rejection while approaching store managers and asking questions about their business in a conversational manner.
  • Highly computer literate with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Have a valid driver’s license, auto insurance and dependable transportation (you will be reimbursed for mileage).

PART TIME RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

THE ROLE
The job of an OTR Global Research Associate is to gather unbiased information on companies and industries through telephone interviews with a variety of sources in numerous sectors, including Professional Contractor, Construction Rental Equipment, Auto Parts, Pharmacies, Retail and Restaurants, and record the information cultivated from those source interactions into an online information system. $20/hour. 5-25 hours per week, 1-4 shifts per week for 5 or 6 hours per shift in our Santa Fe office. No benefits.

PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

  • Must be computer literate, know excel well. Be able to utilize and toggle between multiple windows at once and multi task.
  • Prior experience or solid understanding of Professional Contracting, Industrial Supply, Construction Rental Equipment, Auto Parts and Retail and/or Restaurant sectors a plus

ASSOCIATE OPERATIONS MANAGER (CONSUMER RETAIL)

THE ROLE
The Research Operations Manager is a full time position. This person will work with the Managing Editor, Consumer Retail to analyze and provide Wall Street intelligence, succinctly compare/contrast that intelligence with OTR research and facilitate day-to-day operations support to the teams, including scheduling, internal communication, analytics and new idea generation. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional attention to detail, ability to take direction and see projects through completion, ability to multi task and prioritize projects, and strong analytical and communications skills. Interpersonal abilities are critical as this person will also work with Consumer Retail team editors and reporters across the globe.
