Reporter - Cybersecurity - Part-Time - Remote

Roles & Responsibilities

OTR Global’s Technology team has an established reputation for identifying market inflections ahead of consensus and is looking for a U.S.-based Reporter to join its global team. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to efficiently develop new relationships with cybersecurity industry professionals and maintain those relationships over time. The primary responsibility of this position is conducting in-depth phone interviews with cybersecurity resellers, managed cybersecurity service providers and systems integrators to gauge current demand trends and factors driving changes. Clear and concise writing and communication skills are other important aspects of this role, as writing opportunities may be assigned over time, contingent on ability to deliver high quality source interviews over time. Individual will work closely with senior researchers in the team to provide relevant and timely marketplace intelligence. Candidates with previous experience in the technology industry are preferred. This is a telecommuting hourly position, and a unique opportunity to work with and learn from one of the most differentiated investment research companies in the securities industry.

Professional and Personal Qualifications

  • Background in the technology sector, researching, analyzing and/or writing about cybersecurity and technology trends; working as researcher or tech specialist, and knowledge of the financial industry and investment basics a plus.
  • Understanding of the key trends shaping the cybersecurity industry and leading security companies, and an ability to identify and articulate inflections in those trends.
  • The ideal candidate is persistent with networking and is able to develop and maintain industry relationships and engage contacts for recurring in-depth dialogue. An established network of contacts in the technology industry is a plus.
  • Exceptional communication and analytical skills, attention to detail, ability to “connect the dots” and clearly articulate research conclusions.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, proactive thinking, ability to meet deadlines, multi-task and work under pressure; schedule flexibility a must.
  • Proven ability to work well within teams, self-motivated, showing initiative, a positive attitude and a strong work ethic.
  • This is a remote, part-time position.

Consumer Retail Researcher - Part Time - China

Roles & Responsibilities

The Researcher will work alongside other China-based contributors to provide relevant and timely marketplace intelligence for the global investment community by interviewing industry sources. This person will be expected to tap into their existing network of contacts and develop new industry sources and maintain relationships to generate timely, in-depth interviews spanning the retail and consumer market in China. Effective source development and interviewing skills are key aspects of the role. Attention to detail, analytical thinking and timely communication are other key aspect of the role. The individual in this role will also work closely with global team leaders based in different regions. This is a remote/telecommuting position. Candidates based in tier-1 cities may get priority consideration.

Professional and Personal Qualifications

  • Thorough understanding of the China retail and consumer market, with a strong background in apparel and footwear, retail wholesale and/or consumer products industry. Ability and willingness to understand other key retail and consumer markets is a plus.
  • Industry network of contacts in China, beyond public relations and investor relations; ability to network and successfully develop new sources is key.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in the consumer or retail market, or researcher who covers these topics; consulting or market research firm experience is a plus.
  • Ability to obtain in-depth interviews and accurately capture detailed notes. Ability to analyze and identify essential findings; spot trends, understand and articulate changes and underlying factors driving change
  • Strong organizational skills; an ideal candidate is a quick learner and able to multi-task and meet deadlines, communicates and responds in a timely fashion.
  • The ability to speak/read and write native Chinese is required; verbal and written English skills preferred.
  • The ability to maintain a positive attitude, self-motivation and confidence
  • A native Chinese born speaker and citizen. If not, the proper credentials and work permits to be employed in China is a must.
